Our App

I developed this app along with 5 other people as part of Texas Convergent. Under the Culure and Arts category, my team decided to develop a cross-platform app on React-Native to pinpoint local areas of attraction and crowd-source data to eventually make it a form of travelling social media. The problem with current travelling apps and tech platforms is that they are linked to heavy sponspored activities, and often if someone is travelling using something like TripAdvisor or Yelp then they will be spending quite a bit of money to have fun. Our goal was to make travelling inexpensive and more authentic, giving a more local experience.

The user-interface is easy to use and simple to understand. All a user has to do is sign in /login to the app and then be redirected to the homepage in which a map of the user's country is pinpointed. The user can then search a local geographic area to see a more localized map of the interested area. The map may or may not display pins highlighting local areas of attraction that people think are worthwhile to visit. This pin also gives details on where the place is and has a mock rating setup. To post a place, all the user has to do is take a picture and write the post - then the pin will be automatically generated.

I was the lead front-end designer and focused my attention on developing a simple, easy to understand interface using React Native. To develop the app, my team members also used MongoDB, the Google Maps API, and the Camera API. The app will most likely not be completed, but it was a good learning experience and journey for everyone involved.
